Rarefied Light 2024 Awards & Travel Schedule

The Rarefied Light 2024 exhibition kicks off with an opening reception at the Alaska Pacific University CONOCOPHILLIPS Gallery in Grant Hall and the Leah J Peterson gallery in the Carr Gottstein builiding, with a first Friday reception, November 1st , 4:30 to 6pm.


The Anchorage exhibit includes work by juror Aline Smithson (@alinesmithson ) showing concurrently.
The Alaska Photographic Center (APC) is a statewide organization formed in 1983, with a mission to promote fine art photography in Alaska. Each year APC seeks out a nationally recognized artist to jury the Rarefied Light show and present a public lecture and workshop.


Rarefied Light is Alaska’s largest annual fine art photography exhibition. This year we received 386 entries by 60 Alaska artists. Guest juror Aline Smithson, Los Angeles, selected 49 photographs by 46 artists for inclusion in this year’s exhibition.

Best of Show is awarded to: Michael Johnson, Anchorage “JJ”

In addition, Aline chose 5 pieces for the honorable mention award:

Following the Anchorage exhibit, which ends November 26th , the exhibit will travel to the UAF Gallery in Fairbanks, showing December 1st to December 20th, with an opening reception
December 6th, 5 to 7pm. The show will exhibit at Kenai Peninsula College, January 18 to March 7th , 2024, with an opening reception January 18th , 4:30 to 6pm.
